VIEW TRAINING SESSION

The Jr. NBA Skills Challenge presented by Verizon provides boys and girls, ages 14 and younger, the opportunity to showcase their fitness through a dribbling, shooting, and rebounding skills competition in the sport of basketball. The program is free for all participants. Boys and girls compete separately in two different age groups: 12U and 14U.

Each participant competes one at a time against the stopwatch. Each Participant begins with one basketball in hand and both feet behind and to the right of the designated starting cone. The Participant begins when the timer yells “GO” or blows the whistle. The Participant ends when the timer yells “STOP” or blows the whistle after 60seconds has elapsed.

LOCAL COMPETITION: OCTOBER–FEBRUARY

Contestants can sign up for only one Phase 1 Event. Jr. NBA organizations conduct the Phase 1 skills challenge event October through February. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place award winners in each age and gender group are submitted and advance to the Regional Competition

REGIONAL COMPETITIONS: MARCH – APRIL

To participate in Phase 2 of the Program, the Phase 1 Event Contestants with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd highest scores in each age and gender group will be invited to participate in one of the eleven (11) Regional Competitions (“Phase 2 Event”). Regional Competitions will take place in the following Markets: Colorado, California (2 locations), Florida, Indiana, Illinois, New York, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, and Washington, D.C.

NATIONAL FINALS: JUNE

The top five (5) scoring Regional Jr. NBA Skills Challenge winners of all the 1st place Regional Competition winners (five (5) from each age and gender group) will qualify. The top twenty (20) national scorers will be flown (if necessary) to New York, NY (as described further in the Prizes section below) where they will have the opportunity to compete in the Jr. NBA National Skill Competition.
